The purchase of goods and services by most organizations represents a significant level of spending. In manufacturing close to 60 percent of sales revenue goes to outside sources and in non-profit and service organizations 20–50 percent of the total budget is often spent in this area. It is obvious that there should be serious concern over value received for these funds spent. This course will use a mixture of lectures, readings, and cases to introduce students to the area of procurement and supply management, what best practices exist, and how these functions can be used to help drive both operations strategy and firm financial performance. Prerequisites: BU605 and BU609; or instructor permission. Exclusions: BU695V.
